Thanks Goodness It's Not a Candlelit Vigil

On Tuesday January 15th there will be a rally in support of Luke O'Donovan at the East Atlanta Farmers market location at 6:30pm before his courtdate which is the next day. Luke O'Donovan is queer Atlanta teen who was attacked at a party in Reynoldstown. In the fight a large crowd of people, witnesses say between 8-12, beat and stomped Luke, and stabbed him three times in the back. They also used gay slurs against Luke, as they had earlier in the night. Luke defended his life against his attackers. 5 other people besides Luke received stab wounds or cuts. After the incident Luke was charged with 5 counts of Aggravated assault while his attackers walked free. He has been denied bond and is currently in jail.

Banner Drop in Solidarity With the PNW

238 Early this morning we dropped a banner over Freedom Parkway in Atlanta that read: FOR THE SILENT ONES <3, fuck grand juries @. We did this to show our love for those in the Pacific Northwest who are resisting the grand jury subpeonas there. May the revolt continue to spread in spite of repression by the state. Solidarity with all who rebel.

Action Planning Meeting for Upcoming Execution of Warren Hill

The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles cleared the way for the execution of Warren Hill on Wednesday July 18th. Despite Georgia being the first state to outlaw the execution of people with "mental retardation", the state will go through with this pre-meditated murder. There will be a planning meeting TONIGHT, July 16th, at 8:00PM at the Open Door Community to discuss further action. All are welcome. The Open Door Community is located at 910 Ponce de Leon Ave. Atlanta, GA 30306.

Tonight we will continue to plan for the rally and march that will occur before the execution, and we will discuss and plan what our response will be if the state decides to carry through with the execution of Warren Hill

We have a series of events for the week of October 2-7, 2011.

October 7th marks 10 years of war in Afghanistan, by far the longest war in American history.

The war is unpopular, and it(along with Iraq and other military campaigns) has been a huge contributor to our broken economy here at home.

We've seen programs of social uplift that address real human need in our communities gutted in favor of carrying on unpopular immoral war that seem to have no end in sight. Why do our federal dollars have to lift up systems of violence and oppression when they could be lifting up our communities...

WILL WE LET OCTOBER 7TH PASS BY IN ATLANTA WITHOUT MAKING A STATEMENT?

PLEASE COME TO THE MEETING! We need:

Sound equipment
people who can operate sound equipment
artists to design and participate in a community art project
someone to video record events
