Georgia Prison Hunger Striker Brutally Beaten by Guards Seeks Justice
In this piece, Georgia prisoner and former hunger striker Kelvin J. Stevenson describes in detail a brutal beating by prison guards. (TRIGGER WARNING). I have been corresponding with Kelvin J. Stevenson since he and 4 other hunger strikers in Jackson State Prison wrote a piece I submitted earlier this month. I have typed the letter up exactly as he wrote it to me, as best I could. Please leave comments below and I will print and mail them to him. You can also write him yourself at the address he provides at the end.

I am Kelvin J. Stevenson, a political prisoner and victim of a brutal aggravated assault by prison guards at Smith State Prison in Glenville Georgia on December 31st 2010. I was brutally beaten with a claw hammer and handcuffs, while restrained in handcuffs and leg shackles! As a result of this beating, I recieved a broken nose, fractured right eye orbital socket, ruptured right eardrum, broken jaw, damage to shoulders and neck! In order to protect the guards that beat me, GA. Dept. of Corrections, took steps to file fabricated criminal charges against me, and the transferred me to Special Management Unit (S.M.U.) to cover up the whole incident and to perpetrate the Big Lie! I was transfered to S.M.U. January 4th 2011 and for the last (2) two years, I have been subjected to all types of atypical and significant hardships! For (3) three consecutive weeks, I was denied medical treatment for my injuries plus Prison Administrators deliberately frustrated grievance procedure and all efforts by me and my attorney to get me medical treatment. As a result my jaw is permanently damaged significantly, my nose is twisted, and sight in my right damaged to the point that I now have to wear glasses! I am suffering nerve damage in my shoulders, neck, and arms. I have been on a constant protest about my cruel and inhuman MISTREATMENT! I've even participated in GA.'s hunger strike of 2012 in order to expose the corruptness of GA. Dept. of Corrections. Now not a night passes that I don't have flashbacks of being beatened with that claw hammer and those handcuffs! Every night I awake from my sleep soaked in sweat, feeling as if I've just been beaten and punched anew. I ache spiritually, mentally, and physically all over, yet I'm forced to deal with it in this lockdown cell (24) twenty four hours a day! Mental health counselors stress to me that I should just forget it as if it never happened, but to me thats condoning what was done to me. Also it would help to cover the criminal act of the prison guards, as well as GA. Dept. of Corrections Deliberate actions to villify me, in order to protect it own! I am represented by Criminal Attorney Mr. David Betts, Trial Attorney Mr. Ed Garland, and civil Attorney Mr. Mario Williams, who have been diligently working to manifest justice in my behalf!
