Youth stand up to police intimidation

At least 5 APD officers attempted to force black youth to leave the playground at the Edgewood Courts apartments, where they presumably lived. Despite the show of force, the young people stood up for their rights and eventually forced the police to leave.

The crowd celebrated copwatching, and several used camera phones to record the police.  People were heard saying things like "Get the fuck out the hood!"  "I'm not scared of you!" and "This is going on Instagram tonight!"

Re: Youth stand up to police intimidation

@ 12:17--word, obviously about police behavior. was just curious because i wasn't there, and don't frequent that apt. complex, and was wondering if there are constantly 6-8 police there, with 3 to 4 cop cars, or if this was unusual.

Re: Youth stand up to police intimidation

We need to come together to create youth autonomy. We need to break from the gray cultural death of capitalism and to create a "constellation of occupied spaces where, despite many limits, it is possible to experiment with forms of collective assembly outside of control."

Thanks for posting this video!

Re: Youth stand up to police intimidation

The police don't need a reason for harassing anyone. They are always up at this apartment complex, especially at night, prawling around looking for kids who are hanging out that don't know any better than to not talk to the police.

The pretense any cop will give for being there is literally SO irrelevant.

Re: Youth stand up to police intimidation

good on folks for runnin' 'em outta there. i'm curious if the cops gave a reason for gathering there in such force? wtf?

Re: Youth stand up to police intimidation

Bravo. Good job to both the youths that stood up and copwatch for publicizing the event.

However, expect retaliation... Cops don't like when people exercise their rights...

You can see the hatred in the cop wearing the sunglasses' face. This is a blatant case of racism and attempted oppression. What excuse did they give for trying to run them off the playground anyway?

Again- good job for getting this on film.

This sunday, learn what your rights are when dealing with the cops, and how to record them and get away with it!
