Think Peace DVD

Where were you on February 15, 2003? New film looks at modern day Peace Movement.

The Pumpkinhead Production Company in association with DreamHouse Cinema are pleased to announce the release of their documentary DVD, Think Peace: Portrait of a 21st Century Movement. Filmed at the World Peace Forum held in Vancouver, British Columbia from June 23 - 28, 2006 the film examines the make up and direction of the peace movement in the 21st century.

On February 15th, 2003 the largest protest in human history occurred. Millions of people from all seven continents marched down the street of more than 800 cities to show that they did not support the invasion of Iraq. Yet even at the height of its power the movement was not able to stop the war. What went wrong?

This and other questions are explored in the film as we talk to such diverse people as Hans Blix, Rex Weyler, and Holly Near, among others. With over 40 citizen journalists participating in the project, over 120 hours of footage were captured and distilled into a 55 minute film by director Corey Ogilvie of DreamHouse Cinema.

In order to promote the film and celebrate "the other super power" that arose on February 15, 2003 we ask that you join us in celebrating the 5th Anniversary of this amazing event by declaring that February 15th be know internationally as "Think Peace" Day

A portion of the profits from this project will go to assist the War Resisters Support Campaign in Canada and the Iraq Veterans Against War in the U.S.

Communist Party of the Philippines pursues a violent course against its left opponents

In the Philippines, one of the poorest countries in Asia, 40 percent of the people live in poverty. Conditions there have sparked a large radical movement, heavily repressed by the government.

The "war on terror" has provided an excuse for new onslaughts on the Left. The Communist Party of the Philippines reports that 50 socialists, striking workers, journalists, peasant and church leaders and others have been assassinated, terrorized or abducted just since November 2004. The CPP is working to focus attention on these crimes.

Yet, at the same time, the CPP is itself sabotaging the movement through sectarian violence, as it conducts a campaign of assassination against its political competition. Philippine activists who call for an end to this suicidal policy need international support.

Socialism by and by.

The Maoist CPP started as a split from the Soviet-affiliated Philippine Communist Party in 1968.

Led by José-Maria Sison, now living in exile in the Netherlands, it holds the classic Stalinist position of "two-stage" revolution for Third World countries. First, the national capitalist class must lead a bourgeois democratic revolution (like those in the U.S. and France in the 1700s); only at some indefinite time afterward can a struggle for socialism begin.

The CPP emphasizes rural guerrilla warfare and downplays the political role of workers, even though they are 55 percent of the population. It attracted massive support during the Marcos dictatorship, but declined after the establishment of bourgeois democracy in 1986. Its reliance on capitalist politicians led it to support the candidacies of presidents Corazon Aquino and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, albeit critically.

Confederate Monument Denton, Texas: End Racism & Violent Military History In One Click

Confederate Monument Denton, Texas: End Racism & Violent Military History In One Click
by Aron Duhon

1/23/2008

To all Detonites

A terrorist is defined as a person who uses violence against civilians to gain political ends. Keeping people enslaved is obviously one of the most vile forms of violence. On the Denton, Texas Square is therefore a monument to terrorists. The statue of the confederate solider on the square in Denton, Texas is nothing more than a standing ovation to the use of violence against innocents, and other oppressed minorities for economic and sociopolitical gain.

What obvious hypocrisy to show a heroic and benevolent looking solider, who's sole purpose was to kill others who wished to bring freedom to the oppressed?

Denton!

Is this what you stand for? Is this what you would have your tax dollars support? Take a good look!

The monument to blood also boasts two separate drinking fountains. Why? I have been told by reliable sources in the community who still remember the days of Jim Crow that the fountains were for white and blacks to drink form separately. Thus, this is not only a monument to blood, slavery, and torture, but also to the federal and state laws which upheld segregation after the bleated attempt to end race discrimination during the reconstruction period.

|UA| United Aid right here in Denton is diligently fighting on all fronts to make strategic moves against this offense to morality and justice! If you are interested in joining the movement contact Jason, jason_waite3@yahoo.com, who has worked ceaselessly to organize in our community.

There are five easy actions you can take against the existence of the fountain:

International peace walk - London to Geneva through France

In April 2008 we will embark on an 84-day journey covering over 1500 kms. We will work together with local communities to raise public awareness about the suffering and coercion that communities through out the world face by the nuclear industry

Australia is now a main suppliers of uranium to the world and France is the largest nuclear energy user. We need to connect and work together in this global struggle to end the nuclear industry.

Over the past decade we have participated in non-violent actions, vigils, peace walks and runs to raise awareness of the nuclear industry. During this time we have visited many nuclear sites and the communities who are being affected. We have come to see, literally that we are not just all working on local issues we are engaged in an international struggle.

With your support and commitment we will work together to empower and inspire people while creating a community of peaceful change.

I Still Believe Martin Luther King, Jr.

I
refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the
starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace
and brotherhood can never become a reality.
I refuse to accept the cynical notion that nation after nation must
spiral down a militaristic stairway into the hell of nuclear
annihilation.
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final
word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger
than evil triumphant.

I believe that even amid today's mortar bursts and whining
bullets, there is still hope for a brighter tomorrow.
I believe that wounded justice, lying prostrate on the blood-flowing
streets of our nations, can be lifted from this dust of shame to reign
supreme among the children of men.
I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three
meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds,
and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits. I believe that
what self-centered men have torn down, men other-centered can build up.

I still believe that one day mankind will bow before the
altars of God and be crowned triumphant over war and bloodshed and
nonviolent redemptive goodwill proclaimed the rule of the land. And the
lion and the lamb shall lie down together, and every man shall sit
under his own vine and fig tree, and none shall be afraid. I still
believe that we shall overcome.

South Carolina Elections Are UNCONSTITUTIONAL!?!
by Mark A. Adams JD/MBA

Quote from screen page 3:

"So, I didn´t bother with even looking for any separation of powers provision in South Carolina´s Constitution.

While I waited on hold, I went to the Constitution of South Carolina and clicked on Article II about suffrage. Right there in the first sentence of Article II, sec. 1, it states, "the ballots shall not be counted in secret." Jackpot!!! A Constitutional provision prohibiting counting votes in secret! No more need to refer to case law, evidence, or logic to argue against secret vote counting, at least in South Carolina."

** Then, because no one can see inside a computer, even the most honest computer in the world, using a computer to count votes IS counting votes in secret!

Picket line in New York City protests repression of striking miners in Cananea, MX

NEW YORK, 12 January -- The attack by over 800 state and federal police and Mexican army soldiers, aimed at dislodging striking miners from Cananea (Sonora state), was answered with a protest picket in New York. In front of the Mexican consulate, some 20 demonstrators proclaimed their solidarity with the mineworkers, who have been on strike since July 30 against terrible safety conditions at the Cananea complex and against government attacks on the workers.

"Ejército fuera, policía fuera, viva, viva la huelga minera" ("Army get out, police get out, long live the miners' strike!"), chanted the protesters, "La lucha obrera no tiene fronteras" ("the workers struggle knows no borders"). The picket was organized by the Internationalist Group, U.S. section of the League for the Fourth International, and drew participation from unionists from the UFT (NYC public school teachers), the PSC (City University professors), and the Teamsters.

Chapter 13. CHINESE MULTINATIONALS (book excerpts)

In this era, the key Chinese strategy is to bring foreign investors over to China. In this regard, China has been doing very well. Consequently, the nation has quickly become a global center. This basic strategy will not change any time soon.

At the same time, especially recently, a small group of Chinese companies have increasingly tried to reach the overseas markets in various ways. However, it has not happened in any big way so far. In truth, setting up an extensive international franchise for China Inc. remains at the very beginning.

In this chapter and the next one, we will examine various business dealings of China’s international work. Still, the most interesting ones take place at home market still.

The price of Chinese corruption: what is the next in China's politics, finance, society, stability and international relations?

The price of Chinese corruption: what is the next in China's politics, finance, society, stability and international relations?

World Peace Institue

Has China's ongoing reform altered the nation's political-economic landscape as far as government corruption is concerned? What is the next if this corruption goes deeper?

A compelling new report says that runaway corruption in China poses a lethal threat to the nation's economic development and "undermines the legitimacy of the ruling Chinese Communist Party."

Evidence from official audits, press articles and law enforcement data, the report says, indicates that "corruption in China is both pervasive and costly."

Bribery, kickbacks, theft and fraud, particularly by government officials, are said to be rampant.

Pei Minxin (裴敏欣) wrote the report issued last month by the Carnegie Endowment of International Peace, based in Washington. Pei is a political scientist educated at the Shanghai International Studies University. He earned his PhD at Harvard and his work has been widely published in the US.
