Re: Children Have Rights Too!!!

Mr. Cowart, Ms. Ross, and Ms. Waldrep,

As if this country is not shredded enough by civil unrest, the South taking beatings on every front, and the issue of bullying in schools right at the forefront of the news, you all have managed to exemplify and implement the worst, most un-American values possible by the mistreatment of this child and the suspension and abuse of his civil rights, making us look like the ignorant, close-minded people that the rest of our nation and the world thinks we are. You should be ashamed. As educators, children, parents, our country and the world depend on you all to educate, guide and support our most precious resource. Instead, the Carroll County Board of Education now has a national reputation not only for abusing children, but for disregarding human rights in general, and for behaving like sneaky, underhanded, uneducated, barbarous "rednecks". Intelligent, enlightened, caring, Southerners have been fighting this brutal stereotype for centuries now, and while we can forgive - or at least forget - a single individual or small, misguided group, it is impossible to overlook an entire school systems' hideous crime, especially when news of it is spreading like wildfire across the television, radio and internet.
And as bad as all of this is, it's still a small thing compared to the injustice of a child in pain at the hands of the people he is supposed to trust. Shame on you. This IS child abuse.
I encourage you strongly to address this problem realistically, and not with some quick-fix, surface repair. I am writing to the Georgia Board of Education and the National Board of Education, and encouraging everyone I know to do so as well. We are also discussing raising a group to come stage a peaceful protest in Carroll County in support of Christopher and his family. Before this is over, you may have whole covens of pagans on your Courthouse lawn, and I know the national media will love that.
I think the most disparaging thing of all is that you call yourselves Christians and abuse this child in the name of Christ. I sincerely hope that when you find yourselves in the same position as poor Christopher, you truly understand that these are not Christ-like ways, and that you are giving Christians and Christianity a bad name as well. The world is watching you now. I sincerely hope you do the right thing.
