The problem is that they're acting like this is a private school or something? What happened to separation of church and state?
I'm a Christian (sort of), and I find this whole thing appauling. First of all, the harassment is inhumane, regardless of what religion it's being done in the name of. Second, the teacher is -withholding- vital information from -all- the students, from our world's history. Third, this goes against the teachings of Jesus, who (fourthly) is a Jew (born of a Jewish woman; once a Jew, always a Jew, as the Jewish saying goes). Fifth, there probably are other non-Christian children in Christopher's class, who may or may not be Hispanic, but if he's the only one who is Hispanic and non-Christian, being taught by a non-Spanish speaking teacher who toughts "Christianity" (a possibility), then this may really be a case of double-discrimination: he may simply be seen as "inferior" (in her eyes) to herself and to the rest of the class.
I'm not sure what the best way to address this situation actualy is. I do feel it's important to ensure that all the facts are correct. It's hard to do that when you're not part of the situation. Honestly, this story sounds about 80% unbelievable, considering the reputation that public schools have for being places that wish to be free, completely, from -all- religious references. If public schools are teaching Christianity, then why bother sending kids to private "Christian" schools (who treat children, of any belief, even the school's religion, no better than this)? Why waste the money?
I'm going to call the school, tell them I'm a Christian, and ask for their version of events. How they respond to that will give me vital info, because I'm a -very good listener-. I'll post the results here, if I can get through. I recommend other Christians who read this do the same. I think that will help us all figure out what's really going on here. It just seems like there's more to the story than meets the eye. I don't doubt that a "Christian" teacher would do this -- I'm just really baffled by the idea of this happening in a public school, not a private one. I was put through private schools, not public. Was I incorrectly informed of what life in the public school system is really like? If so, I can only say my parents wasted THOUSANDS of dollars on abusive baby-sitting, 'cause that's all it was.
